Adult strabismus disorders are treated by pediatric ophthalmologists. The physicians of Pediatric Ophthalmic Consultants are accomplished adult strabismus surgeons. We have a very busy adult strabismus service. Adult patients are referred to us for our expertise in treating complex eye muscle disorders.
CATEGORIES
Adult strabismus generally falls into one of the following categories:
- A childhood-onset strabismus that was never corrected.
- A childhood-onset strabismus for which eye muscle surgery had been performed but a significant eye misalignment persists or has recurred.
- Acquired strabismus arising from orbital or head trauma, stroke, brain tumor, orbital inflammatory disease (e.g., thyroid eye disease) or prior ocular surgery.
