Hypertropia

Hypertropia is a type of strabismus where there is a vertical misalignment of the eyes. Although there are many causes of vertical strabismus, one of the most common causes is fourth nerve palsy (also known as superior oblique palsy). Other common causes include: thyroid related eye disease, orbital trauma and Brown syndrome. Hypertropia may also occur following cataract, glaucoma or retinal surgery and may also appear prior to or following successful strabismus surgery for a horizontal eye misalignment.
